15 Craigend Street

The dark coloured house with the dark blue door in this snip of Google Maps's photo (dated May 2021) is 15 Craigend Street.

The photo below of dancers Anita Ardell and Les Rutherford was taken 28 Nov 1956.  The photo is taken by Lynch and is from the ACP Magazines photographic archive in the State Library of NSW. Although the location is noted just as Kings Cross in the record, this is recognisably Craigend Street with the chevron form of the front fences of the two houses. The same fences are there today, although the foorpath has been extended and straightened out.  So I am pretty sure this photo shows 15 Craigend Street on the right and 17 Craigend Street on the left.

The picture below is from SLNSW, taken on May 1956 by Ivan Ives in Kings Cross, and is from the same ACP archive.  It's from a series of photos of Lita Martini, dancer, "back from Japan and Korea". It looks like 15 Craigend Street is the house in the top left of the photo below.  It has the same filled in verandah with square little cut out windows as the house in the photo of the dancers.

If that is correct then descending down the hill on the right hand side the photo I think we have 8, 10, 12, 14 16, 18, 20 and 22 Craigend Street which were demolished for the tunnel.

I think the larger terrace behind Lita's left ear is number 8.

Now this spot is entrances to the carpark for the Elan building:
