The corner of Kings Cross Road and Darlinghurst Road

A great photo of the corner of Kings Cross Road and Darlinghurst Road, looking east up Kings Cross Road, on 28 August 1940 (from City of Sydney).  The tall building with the Dunlop Tyres sign attached is Francis Hall, still standing at 16 Kings Cross Road.

The south side of the corner is shown on the left in this cropped version of a photo from SLNSW.  12 March 1950.

The north side of the corner, from a postcard. 16 December 1937.

If you walked up Kings Cross Road in 1934 when this photographer did, the intersection of Pennys Lane would have looked like this (City of Sydney):

The same corner (Pennys Lane and Kings Cross Road) on 28 August 1940 - the Mary Rose Cake Shop occupies the left hand corner, and a shop selling Grainus breakfast cereal and Capstan cigarettes is on the left.

The next photo is a view alongside the same two shops above, but facing west, back to Darlinghurst Road.  In the background are shops on the western side of Darlinghurst Road which were also demolished for the Kings Cross Tunnel.   The white building with the Pontiac sign on top is Kings Court, which stood at 159 Darlinghurst Road.
