2-4 Craigend Street



This is a drawing from plans lodged in 1918 for conversion to flats of numbers 2 and 4 Craigend Street by C.A. De Kantzow, Esq.  The architects were Massall and Stockham of Royal Chambers, Castlereagh and Hunter Streets. 

The plans were approved on 19 July 1918.  The plans can be viewed here.

Three flats were created on each floor. You can see the original terraces behind the new facade in the drawing below.  

This version of these buildings was still standing on 28 June 1940 when subject to a building survey by the a representative of the City Architect and Building Surveyor's Dept, who observes "A very old building, appears to be a couple of converted cottages."  At that time the building is called Hopetoun Flats.
